Digital
Feeling the need to bring together the artistic side of my brain with the technical, I have developed an interest in immersive art technology which I am exploring through use of Touchdesigner programming. Here I share some of my early experiments.
Fire and Lava
This is my adaptation of a ‘Custom Interactive 3D Particle System’ Touchdesigner tutorial by Simon Ryden. I was drawn to these colours since they made the particles seem like they were burning hot. The theme suits world events as humanity feels like it is going up in flames. The particles interacted with my mouse. It was fascinating to play with. I shall experiment with this further, projecting it onto a wall and seeing if I can get it to interact with movement using a Kinect sensor.
Underwater
A continuation of the above project, here I changed the colour and settings of the particles. After the fire I felt the urge to see how I could rework the same particles for a contrasting scene. I added a graduated blue background and altered the camera angle, to create this underwater scene. It was fascinating trying to make the particles move in synchronicity with music, through movement of the mouse, since the direction and speed settings did not quite align with the mouse movements. I felt like it was evoking a dance which will be interesting to explore further when I set this up for projection with a movement sensor.
Waterfall
This is my adaptation of @pppanik007 ’s interactive particle waterfall tutorial. I found myself especially intrigued by the spray coming off the water as it emerges over the top of the waterfall. Perhaps it signifies the excitement one feels as you are about to take the plunge, jumping into a new project, not quite sure what lies ahead but trusting it will be beautiful.
