About
I am a social artist with a passion for social and environmental justice and a background in web development. In my individual art practice I enjoy experimenting with different types of media including oil and cold wax, charcoal, outdoor emulsion paints, photography, digital and immersive art technologies, but it is in the building of creative communities, by bringing together diverse people to make collaborative creations, that I feel my purpose lies.
Following an intense decade campaigning for human rights, I experienced the restorative effects of developing a creative practice. Through my research studying an MA in Fine Art with Arts University Plymouth and reconnecting with my local community, I came to understand how poor mental health in the west is a limiting factor when it comes to global empathy. I launched Artmoor Haven CIC to help people tap into their creativity and to focus on building creative communities, which I believe can act as vessels for collaborative empathy, providing stimulus for action and global change.
I am based in the south west of England, having recently relocated from Devon to Bristol. I welcome any enquiries. You can contact me via email jamila@jamilahanan.com
